Colorado Springs police took a man into custody Wednesday after staff at a children’s hospital tipped them off to the possible abuse of an 11-month-old child.

Tyrek Jumar Williams, 39, was arrested on suspicion of felony child abuse and booked into the El Paso County jail, records show.

The infant had suffered a head injury and hemorrhaging in both eyes, which physicians at the hospital determined had not been accidental, police said.

Investigators arrested Williams at a residence on the 5900 block of Instone Circle, off Charlotte Parkway and Barnes Road, police said.
