NFL draft no 'big deal' when CSU's Gary Glick was No. 1 pick

Gary Glick skipped his morning class to spend a little extra time with some friends visiting from Nebraska.

He didn’t know a crowd of reporters and photographers was waiting to meet up with him on the CSU campus.

He didn’t know that he had just been selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the No. 1 overall pick in the 1956 NFL draft; the first and only time that has happened at Colorado State University.

Not until coach Bob Davis called, wondering where the player was who had scored all 10 of his team’s points two days earlier in a season-ending win over the University of Colorado.
