Police did not find evidence tying a man to a reported burglary in east Colorado Springs, but a previous felony conviction landed him in jail Sunday.

Geno Duane Patterson, 24, was arrested on suspicion of weapons possession by a previous offender and booked into the El Paso County jail, records show.

Police responding to a burglary-in-progress on the 100 block of University Drive, off East Pikes Peak Avenue, tracked a car that matched witness descriptions of the suspect vehicle, police said.

The driver, identified as Patterson, allegedly had a partially concealed handgun in his sweatshirt pocket, police said.

Officers figured out Patterson had previously been convicted of a felony and placed him under arrest, but there was no evidence linking him to the reported burglary, police said.
