Garbage truck rolls over in northeast Colorado Springs

The driver of a Springs Waste Systems garbage truck may have been going too fast through a residential neighborhood in northeast Colorado Springs, causing the vehicle to roll over, according to police.

Lt. Catherine Buckley said the garbage truck rolled over on its side on the 4600 block of Crow Creek Drive, off Barnes Road, about noon Monday.

Fire crews responded for a hazmat situation when fluids began leaking from the vehicle, Buckley added.

“We do believe speed was a factor, and the driver was cited for careless driving,” Buckley said.

The wreck did not damage any property and the driver suffered only minor injuries, police said.

Police remained at the scene waiting for a tow truck to haul away the wrecked garbage truck.
