Man presumed dead in Larimer County flooding found alive

Investigators have found alive a man they had believed died in the Big Thompson flood, and on Monday released the names of six people still missing.

Sheriff’s investigators say the man, 46, left his Drake-area home before it was destroyed by raging floodwaters. He was out of contact until investigators tracked him down Monday, said Nick Christensen, a spokesman for the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office.

“It turns out he left his residence before it was destroyed,” Christensen said – the man told deputies he climbed out of a window to escape.

Discovery of the man’s safe escape means there is now only one Larimer County resident is still missing and presumed dead from the floods: a 60-year-old woman from Cedar Cove.

Also, the sheriff’s office released the names of six people missing in the flood but not presumed dead.
