List of businesses blacklisted by Fort Carson
A nightclub in downtown Colorado Springs that was the scene of a shooting early Sunday that left a Fort Carson soldier dead is the latest business to be blacklisted by the Army.
“The Circa Nightclub has been added to the off limits area due to a homicide located outside the club,” Fort Carson said Monday on its Facebook page.
The location of the club has been on the Army’s off-limits list before, though it went by a different name — Sodo’s Nightclub.
The list of off-limits areas and establishments was updated Monday to include Circa.
“An emergency vote was conducted on August 18th/19th,” the memorandum states.
The list of off-limits locations applies to all uniformed personnel at Fort Carson regardless of assignment.
The list include three massage and spa parlors: World Massage on Crest Place, Sawasdee Body Works on B Street and Sun Spa on Windchime Place.
The Golden Cue on Hancock Expressway is also on the list. So are 26 rental properties owed by Alma Patrick.
One hookah bar, Hookah Springs Cafe on Citadel Drive, and six head shops, including both Freaky’s in Colorado Springs, are banned, too.
“This memorandum is punitive,” the memorandum states. “Violators may be subject to adverse administrative action or punishment under” the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
“According to the manual for court martial, maximum punishment is a dishonorable discharge, forfeiture of all pay and allowances and confinement for 2 years,” Maj. Earl Brown, a 4th Infantry Division spokesman, said in an email.
“Of course, this is the maximum and the commander can use discretion when deciding punishment. Each case is different,” he added. “…We expect soldiers to take care of the buddies, on duty and off. If they know a location is off limits, we expect them to police themselves.”
