Man dead, woman injured after shooting in Springs

A man was dead and a woman was hospitalized after a shooting on the 400 block of East Cheyenne Mountain Boulevard Thursday night, police said.Police were called to the apartment complex, just east of South Nevada Avenue, around 8:30  p.m. on reports of shots fired. Police spokesman Larry Herbert said a man was dead and a woman had been wounded, but was expected to survive.

Herbert said police are investigating the possibility that one of the victims pulled the trigger and there is no apparent threat to public.

“We’re not looking for anyone else,” Herbert said.

Police said the shooting took place outside the apartments. the did not identify the man or the woman or give details of what may have led to the gunfire.Neighbors reported gunfire and said they heard a woman screaming. An ambulance was seen racing from the apartments with its lights and sirens engaged.A man at the scene, Robert Grimaldo, said a woman lived inside the apartment that was the apparent focus of police activity. He said a man had been visiting.Grimaldo said he’d learned from friends that the couple had been involved in the shooting.He said the man involved recently lost a family member and “has been through a hard time.”“I don’t know what could go so wrong,” Grimaldo said.
