A man who lives in the Patty Jewett neighborhood came home Monday afternoon and encountered an armed burglar, who pointed a handgun at him before running out the back door, police said.

Police blocked off the area after the 1:43 p.m. incident, and a police dog searched for the suspect, but he got away.

The suspect is described as a thin white man in his 20s and 6 feet tall. He was wearing a blue sweat shirt, blue jeans and a blue stocking cap.
