Colorado Springs police say a man attacked his neighbor Tuesday with a samurai sword.

Just before 7 a.m., officers were dispatched to the Westwind Apartments, 1935 Carmel Drive, after a woman reported that her boyfriend had been cut with a sword by a neighbor.

Police said Sean Knapp had gone to Kenneth Sipes’ apartment and swung a samurai sword at his face when Sipes open the door.

“Sipes caught the blade in both hands, and he was able wrestle the sword away,” police said.

When officers arrived, both men were “bleeding extensively,” police said.

Sipes and Knapp, who was arrested in connection with the attack, were taken to the hospital. They are in stable condition and awaiting surgery, police said.

Police didn’t say what prompted the attack.
