Intersection of Platte and Murray closed after head-on crash
The busy intersection of East Platte Avenue and North Murray Boulevard is closed after a head-on collision that sent three people to the hospital.
At least one of the victims in the crash is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, police said.
Police are asking motorists to avoid the intersection and use Galley Road for an east-west alternative and either Academy and Powers boulevards or Wooten Road as a north-south alternative.
“It is not known when the intersection will be opened for traffic,” police said.
The crash happened about 6 p.m.
“We had three apparatus on scene — Engine 8, Truck 8 and Heavy Rescue 17,” Sunny Smaldino, a spokeswoman for the Colorado Springs Fire Department, said.
“One person was extricated, and the on-scene command requested three ambulances,” she said.
