The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a 1-year-old girl and her 3-year-old brother died in a murder-suicide last week at the hands of their mother’s boyfriend.

Autopsies revealed that both children – Scarlett Gallagher and Ryan Willhite –  died of a stab wound to the neck, sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Jeff Kramer said.

Ethan Courrau, 22, stabbed the children at a mobile home northeast of Colorado Springs Wednesday night and then committed suicide, Kramer said. Courrau’s cause of death is multiple knife wounds, he said.

“This case is still active, and no other details will be shared at this time,” Kramer said in an email.

The funeral for both children is 1 p.m. Friday at Woodmen Heights Community of Woodmen Valley Chapel, 8292 Woodmen Valley View. A private burial will be in Monument.
