A Palmer High School sophomore was injured in a crosswalk Wednesday morning when he was struck by a car that was rear-ended by another vehicle.

“It is the third pedestrian accident that we’ve had this year,” none of which has been the students’ fault, said Devra Ashby, a spokeswoman for District 11.

The student was crossing the crosswalk at the intersection of Platte Avenue and Weber Street. Police said a car stopped at the red light was rear-ended by another car, pushing it into the student. The student suffered “minor bumps and scratches,” Ashby said.

Charges against the driver who rear-ended the stopped car are pending, police said.

Ashby said the school, which has an open campus with 1,900 students, urges students to be especially cautious and is asking motorists to be more aware of their surroundings.
