A body was found inside a Widefield home Wednesday evening by deputies who were called by a woman who arrived home to find her door open, El Paso County Sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Kramer said.

The woman did not go into the house in the 100 block of Judson St., just west of Widefield Community Park. She reported what she thought was a burglary about 7:15 p.m.

She declined comment Thursday.

Kramer said he had no information about the victim and declined to say whether the house had been ransacked.

The El Paso County Coroner’s Office did not have any information about the deceased Thursday morning. A spokeswoman for the coroner said new information might not be available until Friday morning.

Sgt. Joe Roybal of the sheriff’s office said the investigation is still ongoing and investigators might be able to release more about the deceased sometime Thursday afternoon.

“This is the first time anything like that has happened here,” said John Deutsch, 79, who lives a few doors down.

He and his wife, Joan, 75, have lived in their house for 48 years.

“It’s a very quiet area,” she said.
