The Salvation Army is taking a stand. A 24-hour stand. At least, one of their volunteers is.

Salvation Army Cadet Mareah Morrow, from Los Angeles, has been ringing her bell outside the Chapel Hills Mall Wal-Mart for 24 hours straight, (minus a few coffee, meal and bathroom breaks) from 9 a.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday.

“It’s the last weekend before Christmas, so why not make it count?” said Morrow happily.

Morrow has been standing next to her iconic red Salvation Army donation bucket, which sports an impromptu “Cadet 24-hour Kettle Challenge!!!” sign that originally had 24 snowmen on it. Morrow takes one off for each hour she rings her bell.

Morrow attends one of the Salvation Army’s four colleges, and the trip to Colorado Springs — along with the 24-hour stint — are part of her schooling.

And this experience, Morrow said, has been excellent.
