The conservative group Americans For Prosperity will fund a gasoline discount for local drivers at a gas station on Thursday as a way to protest President Barack Obama’s energy policies.

From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., gasoline will cost $1.84 a gallon at the Acorn station at the southeast corner of South 8th Street and West Cimarron Street, just west of I-25.

Americans For Prosperity will subsidize the gas deal for the first 150 drivers to the station, and for 15 gallons only.

AFP spokesman Sean Paige said that $1.84 a gallon was the price of gas on the day Obama was inaugurated four years ago.

The group’s state director, Jeff Crank, said Obama’s “reckless opposition to domestic energy production has made America more dependent on foreign oil and drastically increased the cost of gasoline.”

“High gas prices have hurt Colorado families and it’s our goal today to help alleviate the pain at the pump, even if it’s just for one tank of gas,” Crank said.

The Colorado Springs Police Department has been notified of the event, and has coordinated with Americans For Prosperity to make sure traffic isn’t disrupted, Paige said.
