Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will be in Pueblo on Sunday to rally supporters.

His visit comes as a new Denver Post poll shows Romney in a dead heat with President Barack Obama.

Romney’s Sunday event will be at the Weisbrod Aircraft Museum, at 31001 Magnuson Ave. in Pueblo. The doors open at 1:45 p.m., the event is scheduled to begin at 3:45 pm.

Campaign spokeswoman Alison Hawkins said in a statement that Romney is “looking forward to stopping in Pueblo,” to discuss his “plan for a stronger middle class.”

“With tens of thousands more Coloradans unemployed since Obama took office, and trillions more in debt, it’s clear Coloradoans aren’t better off than they were four years ago and are ready for a new direction,” Hawkins said. “Colorado voters don’t have to settle for more of the same for the next four years and only Governor Romney is offering a plan to turn this economy around and get people back to work.”

Obama campaigned in Golden on Thursday, and in Fort Collins two weeks ago.The Denver Post poll results show Obama ahead of Romney by a single, statistically insignificant percentage point, 47 to 46 percent.

Romney’s support is strongest among whites, military families, gun owners, voters in Colorado Springs and opponents of abortion. Obama’s support is strongest among women, Hispanics, voters in the metro area, voters who earn less than $40,000 a year and supporters of abortion access, according to the poll.

Romney was last in Colorado on Aug. 2, when he spoke to a crowd in Golden.

Colorado is seeing intense campaigning in part because early voting starts next month. Mail-in ballots will be sent Oct. 15, with early voting starting Oct. 22.
