Witness sought in 1976 Antler’s Hotel cold case
Colorado Springs police hope a man who was a doorman at the Antler’s Hotel in 1976 might have information about the death of a 34-year-old hotel housekeeper.
They’re asking for the public’s help to find Bennie B. Wilson, who they say might have information about the death of Janet Conrad on Dec. 3, 1976. Police say Wilson is not a suspect in the case.
At the time of Conrad’s death, he was in his 30s or 40s and worked as a doorman at the Antler’s Hotel, 2 S. Cascade Ave.
Conrad’s case is one of about 90 cold case homicides in the city’s history. The hotel housekeeper was found murdered in the 10th floor linen closet of the hotel. Police say she had been sexually assaulted and strangled.
Police say another incident about the same time may have been related to her death. In that case, a woman at the hotel reported a man entered her room when her husband briefly left. The intruder was frightened away when her husband returned soon after. The woman was not assaulted and police do not know his intentions or identity.
Conrad’s killer was never found. On Monday, police sent a release to members of the media stating they were looking for Wilson who they hope might have information about the case.
Anyone with information about Wilson is asked to contact Detective Jerry Schiffelbein at 444-7673 or e-mail the the cold case unit at cspdcoldcase@springsgov.com.
