Help your kids beat back-to-school jitters
Getting ready for school can be scary. To ease into the new school year, here are some tips from local teachers to combat back-to-school jitters.
Yvonne Smith, a teacher at Talbott Elementary said:
• It’s a good idea to start “getting them into routine” to get ready for the school year.
• Take them to open gyms before school starts to interact with friends.
• Take them to sign up for classes and walk them through the process of meeting their teachers and new classmates.
• “Don’t skip out” on any of the school events before school starts, Smith advised.
• Make sure they go to bed early “two weeks before instead of three days.”
Parents have also given advice:
• Tell your child about fire alarms. They’re loud!
• Make sure you and your child get a tour of the school.
• Let them shop for school supplies with you—make it a special day!
