Grand Prix of Running continues Saturday with Top Ten
The Grand Prix of Running’s Top 10 race returns this weekend, with a slightly altered route. The fast, flat run should please most competitors as it follows the scenic Pikes Peak Greenway from the Grace Athletic Center to Colorado College.
“It’s unique because it’s a stadium-to-stadium run, and the distance – we don’t have too many other 10-milers in town,” race organizer Carol O’Donnell said. “It’s a pretty flat course; there’s actually an elevation loss of 247 feet.”
Saturday (Aug. 4) should prove to be pleasant as the forecast calls for temperatures in the 70s. Returning runners should prepare for a few changes, including an additional lap in the stadium at Grace Athletic Center to make up for the fact that CC’s Washburn Field is closed for construction.
This race is the fifth in the Grand Prix of Running’s long series, with October’s Great Pumpkin Race set up as the finale. Organizers are hoping to top last year’s field of just more than 200 entries. Early registration is closed, but runners can register Friday until 6 p.m. at Runners Roost, 121 N. Tejon St. in downtown Colorado Springs and Saturday beginning at 6 a.m. at the starting area for $30. There is no guarantee of a T-shirt to late registrants.
The race starts at 7 a.m.
The 10-mile course offers solid preparation for upcoming races in Colorado Springs, including the Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon later this month and the American Discovery Trail Marathon next month.
