Grand County gun store owner questioned about Holmes

James Eagan Holmes may have fired his weapons at an unsupervised gun range in Grand County, according to a gun shop owner who says he was interviewed by investigators.

The owner of C & M Guns in Hot Sulphur Springs, who asked not to be named, said investigators from three different local and federal law enforcement agencies spoke with him following the mass shooting at the Century Aurora 16 on July 20 that left 12 dead and 58 wounded.

Holmes, 24, was arrested in back of the theater after the shooting. He was allegedly wearing full body armor and had a shot gun, an assault-style rifle and a .40 caliber handgun in his possession. Another gun was found in the theater. He is being held without bond in the Arapahoe County jail.

C&M Guns is the closest gun shop to the Byers Canyon Rifle Range, located along U.S. 40, between Hot Sulphur and Kremmling.

FILE – In this July 20, 2012 photo, police are positioned outside the Century 16 movie theatre in Aurora, Colo., at the scene of a mass shooting. It wasn’t until more than 20 minutes into the crisis that dispatchers called on the two-person team, but they didn’t arrive until more than half an hour after authorities first got word of the shooting. That episode was one of the most glaring examples of ambulance delays that may have cost crucial minutes in the chaotic response to a massacre that ultimately left 12 people dead and dozens wounded.
