Colorado Springs got some relief Wednesday morning from the scorching 90-degree weather that’s been pounding the area when the skies opened up for a few minutes and let out a spurt of rain.

But only a “trace” of rain was reported near the airport, and not much more than that is expected through the rest of the week, according to Patrick Cioffi of the National Weather Service in Pueblo.

Some scattered thunderstorms are possible throughout the rest of the day, and there’s a 20 percent chance of rain for the next few days, Cioffi said, but there’s not more than a “slight chance” of thunderstorms.

Cioffi said the best chance the region has for more rain is on Friday, but residents shouldn’t expect more than a tenth of an inch.

Flash floods are still a significant danger to Waldo Canyon burn scar area, Cioffi said, and will depend on where thunderstorms travel. Floods will be a threat for “many months to come,” he said.

The last time it rained significantly in Colorado Springs was July 9, when it rained .85 of an inch.
