The death of Colorado Springs resident Keith Morgan, 22, was the result of drowning, the Teller County coroner has ruled.

Morgan’s body was found shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday at Rosemont Reservoir in 60 to 70 feet of water.

An autopsy was conducted Tuesday morning. Teller County Coroner Al Born said the direct reason for his death was drowning, although the cold temperature of the water in the reservoir might have contributed.

“(Cold temperature) is not an immediate cause, but it can have an impact,” Born said.

The water temperature near the surface was 69 degrees, while the temperature where the body was found was 60 degrees.

Emergency crews were notified at 4 p.m. Sunday after Morgan and another man jumped off  Rosemont dam into the water below, and Morgan never resurfaced, according to a Teller County Sheriff’s report.

The death is “absolutely” believed to be accidental, Born said.
