UPDATE: Man likely shot himself after police attempted traffic stop
An attempt to pull over a vehicle on a residential street near Circle Drive and Fountain Boulevard Thursday evening turned tragic when a man police were pursing apparently shot himself in the head.
Colorado Springs said officers attempted to stop a vehicle in the 800 block of Doniphan Street, but it didn’t stop. As it drove away, at least one person bailed from the vehicle and ran through the neighborhood, said police Lt. Adrian Vasquez.
Another officer spotted the man on Bryce drive and began to chase the man when he jumped a fence at a house in the 800 block of Zion Street and disappeared into the backyard, Vasquez said. Police did not pursue him over the fence and a short time later found him with a bullet wound to the head. A gun was found near the man in the yard, Vasquez said. Vasquez confirmed that the man was not a resident of the house his body was found outside of.
The three other people in the car were taken into custody, police said. Officers attempted to stop the car because of suspicious activity but no other details were released.
