UPDATE:

Crews achieved 100 percent containment of a small fire near Wetmore, west of Highway 67, Wednesday night.

A U.S. Forest Service helicopter, two SEATs (Single Engine Air Tankers) and an air attack were ordered to battle the fire, said Jeff Vanis, the Inter-agency Fire Management Officer in Pueblo.

Vanis said crews reached the area near the Adobe Creek area of Custer County about 4 p.m.

“We have 2 engines, a squad – that’s 4-5 people – that are on scene right now,” Vanis said. “They’re still in the initial attack, so any percentage containment right now is unknown.”

Crews are on scene fighting a small fire west of Highway 67, near Wetmore, according to the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office. The fire is in the Adobe Creek area of Custer County, said an official from the Custer County Sheriff’s Office.

Captain Don Pinover of Fremont County Sheriff’s Office said the fire is near the Fremont and Custer county lines and roughly 1 acre in size. Pinover said that while the large amount of smoke makes the fire highly visible, there are a crews from multiple agencies fighting the fire.

“They’re hiking into it,” Pinover said. “You can’t drive right up to it, it looks like.”

According to the Custer County Sheriff’s Office, the fire is on Custer County’s side of the county line and being fought by their crews along with others.

Crews from the U.S. Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management and the Wetmore Fire Department are on scene. One of the Forest Service’s helicopters was sent from the Waldo Canyon Fire to make drops, as there are no roads to the area.

Because of the lack of roads, there is not yet a time frame for when it will be contained.

According to an official from the Custer County Sheriff’s department, the fire is less than one mile from homes. However, no structures are being threatened at the moment.
