Multicolored oil pastels, paintbrushes and giant sheets of paper were strewn across the table as kids drew slips of paper out of three different hats. These papers contained a noun, a verb and an adjective and would determine what image the kids would draw next.

This altered version of Pictionary was part of one of the workshops held last week at the Imagination Celebration Space at The Citadel. This particular workshop, called the “What If … Art is Everywhere Workshop,” focuses on how art is used in other fields of work.

“Were just incorporating science, math, literature and engineering into art,” instructor Jesiann Schrader said. “We’re talking about how it relates to everything we do.”

The workshop is modeled after the Imagination Celebration’s What If Festival, a mixture of art projects, science demonstrations and other hands-on activities that occurs in September.

“It has the same idea and same kinds of concepts behind it,” Schrader said.

Future projects will include creating and illustrating storybooks that focus on symmetry in art and using deconstructed computers to make sculptures.

These classes wioll be held every Thursday from 1-2:30 p.m. for the next five weeks. They are open to kids in grades 3-6. The only cost is a $1 donation.
