Police arrested Steven I. Wood, 52, Tuesday morning on suspicion of camping on public property.

The City Ordinance against camping was passed in 2010, and this one of the first arrests that has been made relating to it.

Wood was found Tuesday by the Homeless Outreach Team while they were looking into camps on public property.

Wood had been warned both verbally and in writing about violating the city ordinance against camping prior to his arrest.

According to the police blotter, he had given officers a fake name in previous encounters. He also was found to have an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for his arrest.

Wood became physical and had to be restrained when the Homeless Outreach Team confronted him.

He was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Jail.

In October 2011, an advocate for the homeless became the first person to be arrested for violating the anti-camping ordinance after pitching a tent near the Occupy Colorado Springs protest in Acacia Park.
