WALDO CANYON FIRE: Church has giveaway for fire victims

A garage sale giveaway for fire victims will be held 4-8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at the Front Range Alliance Church.

The clothing, toys and household items are being offered on a first-come first-served basis, and people are expected to show identification; the church has a list of the affected homes.

“We have a lot of clothes,” said a Front Range Alliance Church representative, “as well as household items from lamps to utensils to plates. We also have children’s toys, puzzles, and clothes.”

Care and Share also donated to the church, giving them dozens of meal boxes and hygiene products.

The church stopped accepting donations because it was overwhelmed with donations. Instead, they encourage people donate to either Springs Rescue Mission or Goodwill. “The phone has been ringing off the hook,” said the representative.

The church also is serving as headquarters for Samaritan’s Purse, a nonprofit charity that provides disaster relief over the world. The organization is in Colorado Springs with 77 volunteers who are helping homeowners sift through rubble to recover valuables. They will be at the church for the next two weeks.

“We want people to know about our services.”

Front Range Alliance Church is located at 5210 Centennial Blvd.
