Former school board member pleads guilty to sexual assault
Trembling before a judge, former Ellicott School Board member Stefanie Dickinson pleaded guilty Wednesday morning to sexually assaulting a 17-year-old boy.
Dickinson, 38, faces 10 years to life on sex-offender intensive supervised parole under a plea agreement that will allow her to avoid prison time.
In exchange, prosecutors agreed to dismiss charges that she sent lewd text messages to another teen boy.
Her guilty plea was heard Wednesday morning by 4th Judicial District Judge Gregory Werner, who ordered that Dickinson have no contact with anyone under age 18 pending an Oct. 24 sentencing. The no-contact order applies to her children, though the judge will permit her to talk to them on the phone.
Dickinson wept and her shoulders and back shook while her attorney, Ted McClintock, pressed for her ability to call the children.
Under the deal, Dickinson will avoid back-to-back trials on the sex charges, the first of which was scheduled to begin Monday.
Dickinson served as Ellicott School District 22 board treasurer for two years until resigning the post after her October 2011 arrest on suspicion of “sexting” a teen friend of her son’s. The investigation led El Paso County sheriff’s detectives to a man who said he was 17 when he had a sexual relationship with her.
The older victim babysat for Dickinson’s children, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said in an arrest affidavit.
Dickinson, who is out on bond, has been living in Texas with a judge’s permission while awaiting the disposition of her criminal case.
Judge Werner permitted Dickinson to fly to Ohio for an upcoming trip that McClintock said would be focused on reconciling with her husband, Chad.
