The forecast for record-breaking hot weather came true Tuesday as Colorado Springs briefly reached a sizzling 90 degrees just before 3 p.m.

The temperature, recorded at 2:54 p.m. by the National Weather Service, broke the previous record of 87, set in 1996.

Moments after hitting 90, the temperature dropped to 89 … and then 88 within a half hour, the weather service said.

Don’t get your hopes up for more new records this week, though. The weather service’s forecast shows falling temperatures throughout the week, with the highest predicted temperature being in the low 80s on Saturday.
