95-year-old is not your typical model
It’s not often you see a walker on the fashion runway. But you’ve probably never seen a 95-year-old model.
Sporting the latest couture and celebrating her birthday at the same time Saturday, 95-year-old Mabel Rainer, strutted her stuff during a show at the Citadel mall in Colorado Springs.
Yes, it’s the first time in 30 years that Rainer has been on the runway. But it was no different for the fashion veteran who participated in a show hosted by women’s clothier Christopher and Banks.
Well, a little different, the well-spoken great-grandmother said, noting “I’ve never been 95 before.”
Rainer joined by her daughters, Melanie Roberts and Marinell Estep showed off summer attire in petite sizes including a satin trim tank and floral jacket.
The fashion show showed off new trends, but for Rainer and her daughters it was a celebration.
“I’m so happy I have a lovely family and many, many friends,” she said to her birthday well-wishers who watched the show.
Rainer is very active and has retained her vivacious lifestyle not only in the church, but she is also the treasurer of the of her homeowner’s association.
The end of the runway isn’t the end of Rainer’s travels.
Next month, she’s going to her great-granddaughter’s wedding in Mexico.
Roberts and Estep were excited for their mother’s fashionable birthday.
“This has been so great,” said Roberts, who along with her sister is taking home new pieces from the collection.
The sisters took advice from their favorite model.
“Mabel picked out the most clothes.”
One of the ways Mabel Rainer celebrated ninety-fifth birthday was by modeling modeling the new spring line at the Christopher & Banks store.
