Helmets for tornadoes? North Dakota says yes, CDC not so sure
Can a helmet protect the ol’ brain basket amid the force of a tornado?
A North Dakota researcher thinks it’s a great idea, and hands out the advice to kids when he speaks about weather and storm dangers.
The CDC got so many phone calls from the public (and no doubt from reporters) that it decided on an official statement, which must count as a definite “maybe.” A helmet’s not exactly a bad idea or a dumb one during a twister, the CDC says in its ultra-official voice.
