Colorado Springs taxpayers will spend $3.2 million on new police vehicles, a fire truck and other “mission critical” capital needs even though they weren’t in the 2012 budget.

The City Council voted 6-0 Tuesday on a series of supplemental budget appropriations requested by Mayor Steve Bach. Other appropriations include $935,000 to pave four streets and $350,000 to replace the roof at the Police Operations Center.

In a separate vote, the council also approved the mayor’s request to take $319,500 out of the Conservation Trust Fund, or state lottery money, for various repair and renovation projects, including $128,500 to get several pools and recreation centers ready before the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region takes over their operation this summer.
