Thursday’s roundup: Palmer Ridge girls stay perfect in soccer

GIRLS’ SOCCER
Palmer Ridge 6, Vista Ridge 0
At Vista Ridge: Palmer Ridge’s keepers Moran Buzzel and Kaylyn Smith could just relax Thursday.
Each took the box for 40 minutes and neither saw a shot against them.
The Bears out-shot Vista Ridge 27-0.
Palmer Ridge’s Haley Fisher scored her seventh goal of the year to close the first half and added her second assist of the year to start the second. Palmer Ridge has only allowed one goal in five games (5-0). It has outscored its opponents 18-1.
Vista Ridge (1-3) was shutout for the second straight game.
Coronado 5, Mitchell 0
At Mitchell: Coronado (3-2) has won three straight after starting the season 0-2.
Tiana Cerciello scored three times on her ten shots for the Cougars in the rout. Keeper Emily Lambert recorded her first shutout of the season.
Mitchell was shutout for the second straight game (2-3).
Cheyenne Mountain 15, Widefield 3
At Cheyenne Mountain: Cheyenne Mountain (7-3) has scored 34 runs in its past two games. Bret Helton quarterbacked the offense, going 3-for-5 with five RBIs and a homer run. He has three home runs and 12 RBIs on the season.
Widefield (3-8) led 1-0 after the top of the first, before Helton’s bomb made way for a four-run bottom half.
On the mound for Cheyenne Mountain, Jack Stimple pitched 3 2/3 innings and gave up three runs.
Michael Levar closed out the game with a scoreless 2 1/3 innings.
Mesa Ridge 7, Widefield 0
At Mesa Ridge: Mesa Ridge has had their way with Widefield this season. The Grizzlies have beat the Gladaitors twice by a combined score of 15-1.
Thursday, Widefield only got off one shot, keeper Amber Moore made only half of her saves and the team faced its sixth straight loss (1-6).
Mesa Ridge will face another second-time foe Tuesdaym when it faces Wasson. The Grizzlies won by forfeit when it played the open the season.
TCA 8, Alexander Dawson 0
At TCA: TCA’s Meghan Troupe scored three goals in the rout. Five other players added a goal in a game that saw four goals per half.
TCA (4-1) hasn’t lost since its 2-0 loss to start the season to Peak to Peak in a 3A finals rematch.
Troupe now leads the team with four goals on the season.
Fountain Valley 5, Colorado Springs 0
At Colorado Springs: Fountain Valley’s (1-1) Nora Blood-Cheney scored two goals as the Danes shutout CSS (0-1).
Fountain Valley’s Heather Whitham made two saves.
James Irwin 2, Vanguard 0
At James Irwin: James Irwin (2-1-1) scored its first goal in the 65th minute and closed the game out 10 minutes later with the second goal of the game.
Vangaurd on the other hand had only two shots on net. The team with only one senior and seven freshman lost its first game of the season.
Sophomore keeper Sarah Batchelor made 13 saves for the Coursers.
Cheyenne Mountain 4, Lewis-Palmer 0
At Cheyenne Mountain: Cheyenne Mountain (6-0) keeper Sarah Schneider recorded her fourth shutout of the season .
Thursday she faced seven shots.
In the net for Lewis-Palmer (1-2-1) was Sabrina Perry. She only made half of her saves as the Indians scored twice in each half.
Canon City 3, Pueblo East 0
At Pueblo East: Montana Buckhaults, Nicole Decker and Amy Solis each scored in the shutout.
Keeper Emily Holt made all three saves.
Canon City outshot Pueblo East 19-to-3.
BASEBALL
Pine Creek 10, Liberty 2
At Liberty: Pine Creek’s Dane Hutcheon went 3-for-4 with three RBIs in the rout. The Eagles scored four runs in the first and one in the third before Liberty finally crossed a runner in the fifth.
The Eagles’ Ryan Warner pitched six innings and gave up one run. He struck out eight and walked four.
Liberty’s Brent Williams and Kyle Simon produced six of the Lancers’ seven hits and drove in both of the team’s runs. Williams went 3-for-4 with a home run and Simon went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI.
Pine Creek (3-2) out hit Liberty (3-3) 11-to-7.
Palmer Ridge 20, Coronado 16
At Palmer Ridge: After five lead changes and more than a handful of runs Palmer Ridge (4-4) remained perfect at home.
Coronado’s Andrew Trujillo pitched three innings and gave up nine earned runs. With the bat, the junior knocked in his 14th RBI going 3-for-5 with a double.
Douglas County 4, Falcon 1
At Falcon: Falcon (6-1) left eight men stranded in its first loss of the season.
Starting pitcher Timmy Thomas drove in Wyatt Aaberg in the bottom of the seventh for the team’s only run. Douglas County padded its lead in the fifth with a three-run inning. Thomas was pulled an inning later.
With his back to four errors in the field, Thomas pitched 5.3 innings, stuck out seven, walked two and only one of the four runs off of him was earned.
Discovery Canyon 19, Vista Ridge 4
At Discovery Canyon: Discovery Canyon (3-4) pitcher Jake Hluska struck out five of the the first six batters he faced. The Thunder scored 14 runs in the bottom of the first.
Vista Ridge fell to 0-6.
Hunter Liese drove in five runs and hit his first home run of the season. And Hluska and Andy Stauffer added three hits apiece.
The game ended in four innings.
Fountain-Fort Carson 13, Palmer 5
At Fountain-Fort Carson: Palmer gave up seven unearned runs to lose to Fountain-Fort Carson.
The Trojans scored in every inning except the seventh.
Palmer’s Jonathon Vieira drove in three runs as he went 1-for-3.
Limon 7, Peyton 5
At Peyton: After starting 7-0, Peyton (7-3) has lost three straight.
Peyton tied it at 4 in the bottom of the fourth before Limon inched away.
Cole Ellis threw all seven innings and struck out nine in a losing effort.
Lamar 11, Manitou Springs 8
At Manitou Springs: A six-run fifth buried Manitou Springs.
The Mustangs led 4-1 prior.
Jason Cox scored three runs and walked four times in the loss.
BOYS’ LACROSSE
Cheyenne Mountain 10, Summit 6
At Cheyenne Mountain: Matt Clancy scored a hat trick as Cheyenne Mountain won its fifth game of the season (5-2). Angus Campbell added four assists and led the team with six shots on goal.
The Indians led 5-2 at half and Nick Ramsey grabbed eight saves as they handed Summit its third loss in four games.
Cheyenne Mountain faces Fountain Valley/CSS Monday.
GIRLS’ LACROSSE
Rampart 16, Regis 7
At Rampart: Rampart knocked off powerhouse Regis. Jordan Dunham and Kelli Warmouth each scored four goals as the Rams jumped on Regis early.
They led 13-3 at the half.
Rampart keeper Shellie Shaw kept the Raiders’ offense to a season-low seven goals as she made 10 saves.
Cheyenne Mountain 17, Heritage-Littleton 6
At Heritage-Littleton: Cheyenne Mountain (5-2) won its third straight.
Keeper Sydney Pinello made 11 saves on 17 shots.
GIRLS’ TENNIS
Discovery Canyon 4, Sand Creek 3
At Discovery Canyon: Sand Creek hadn’t dropped a match all season coming into Thursday. Neither had Discovery Canyon. The Scorpions had beaten Fountain-Fort Carson, Palmer and Falcon all 7-0. The Thunder boasted shutout wins against Falcon and Palmer Ridge
Now, only Discovery Canyon remains undefeated.
Sand Creek won two of the three singles matches, Andrea Jantosovicoca (No. 1) and Amanda Tarby (No. 3) each won in straight sets.
But the Thunder won three of the four doubles matches to gain the win. No. 2 doubles partners Jessie Keith and Olivia Zamora led the way with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Cheyenne Mountain 4, D’Evelyn 3
At D’Evelyn: Cheyenne Mountain looks primed for another title run.
The Indians remain undefeated (5-0) as their doubles teams won three out of four Thursday. Cheyenne Mountain’s top two singles players lost in straight sets. But Kristen Sullivan (No. 3 singles) gave the Indians the edge, winning her match 6-2, 6-1.
Lewis-Palmer 7, Mesa Ridge 0
At Lewis-Palmer: Palmer Ridge No. 1 singles player Teresa Haro overwhelmed Mesa Ridge Taylor Richards 6-0, 6-0. The Bears’ Rachel Habermehl (No. 2) won in nearly the same fashion over Kalen Carter 6-0, 6-1.
Only Mesa Ridge No. 1 doubles team took a match to three sets on Thursday. But Bree Sage and Melissa Hansen would follow suit and fall (5-7, 6-2, 6-2).
Coronado 7, Mitchell 0
At Coronado: Mitchell was smacked around.
Coronado lost only four games in singles play and won every set. Oiliva Babeu (No. 1) beat Nyasia 6-0, 6-0. And then, Chanelle Bole (No. 2) and Allie Beaudin (No. 3) each won with identical scores (6-1, 6-1).
Mitchell’s No. 2 doubles team put up the most fight Thursday. Snyder Hernandez and Lili Dare-Nickle won the first set before bowing out (4-6, 6-2, 6-1).
Pine Creek 7, Salida 0
Pine Creek: Games won: Pine Creek 84, Salida 1.
The Eagles’ singles players Nicole Kalhorn (No. 1), Sarah Kosab (No. 2) and Hanna Clack (No. 3) all remain undefeated this season.
