Colorado Springs teams had a strong showing at the Colorado Bar Association State Mock Trial Tournament recently.Twenty-four teams traveled from across the state to the Boulder County Justice Center for the annual state competition on March 9 and 10, including ? schools from the Pikes peak region. The two teams from Palmer High School in Colorado Springs School District 11 finished in second and third place. Doherty High School, also in District 11, finished sixth. Coronado High in D-11 and Air Academy High School in Academy School District 20 also competed. Each team studied the same fictitious criminal murder case, where there was no body and no weapon found. In each round, students had to be ready to perform either the prosecution or defense side of the case. They were scored by real attorneys and judges. The students have been working toward the tournament since September. More than 100 teams from around the state competed in the program with the final 24 teams the top performers in nine regional tournaments held in February.
