Santorum swings through Springs on caucus day
Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum made a last-minute stop in Colorado Springs on Tuesday morning, in advance of the GOP caucuses Tuesday evening.
Santorum, a former U.S. senator from Pennsylvania, implored the 100 attendees at the former Giuseppe’s Depot downtown to not only caucus for him but drag as many friends with them as they can.”We need a huge win here today,”Santorum told supporters. “Colorado can send a message across this country.”Santorum touted his background as a social conservative, and blasted his rivals as faux Republicans. He said former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney established the basis for President Obama’s health care reform bill, and that former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich stood with Democrats on energy and environmental policy.Santorum also attacked Obama over his economic policies and the Wall Street bailout, and said Obamacare is the worst possible financial move the country could have made during a recession.
