MEDIA BUZZ: KRDO adds new local newscast at 4:30 p.m.
Attention all news junkies: You no longer have to wait until 5 p.m. every day to get your local fix. KRDO Newschannel 13 has announced a new afternoon newscast starting at 4:30, anchored by Heather Skold and James Jarman.
Jarman will also co-anchor the 10 p.m. news on weekdays with Skold, with Eric Singer continuing to anchor at 5 and 6 p.m.
KRDO meteorologist Rachel Plath will anchor the weather at 4:30 Monday through Thursday, with Matt Meister working the weather on Fridays. With these changes, KRDO now offers 32 hours of news throughout the week – more than any other station in the market.
Axed: “Playboy Club,” a new NBC drama that was worth watching just because it upset the Parents Television Council, has been cancelled, along with “Free Agent,” a comedy starring Hank Azaria (also on NBC). But TV watchers are reporting that another new NBC show, “Whitney,” made the cut. I’m not a big fan – it’s definitely no “New Girl,” and it’s accompanied by an annoying laugh track.
Favorite quotes this week: From “Modern Family”:
“If we had that on tape, that (would) be the greatest YouTube video ever.” – Luke
“We’d get, like, a million hits. This is our double rainbow!” – Phil
And this:
“Dangerous combo: speedwalking and Speedwagon. Whoa. I wasn’t even trying for that!” – Phil.
Ski on
Did you miss the earliest opening day ever in Colorado ski history? Not to worry – you can relive it on YouTube (youtube.com/watch?v=2vFlQODk_F8). Wolf Creek Ski Area opened on Saturday after a 3-foot snowstorm, and later that day, PinPinfilms.com uploaded a video, complete with music and editing.
Tear ‘Factor’
I cried: I admit it. “The X Factor” got to me. It’s all perfectly scripted to make viewers cry – stories of recovering addicts and missed parents’ funerals and homelessness. Throw that together with some breathtaking talent that makes “American Idol” look like karaoke night, and you’ve got great TV. Favorites so far? Leroy Bell, who’s 59 but looks 40, and rapper Chris Rene.
Watch the audience
It’s a great game to play, especially during “Dancing with the Stars.” Last week: Jay Cutler was smiling goofily at his former/current girlfriend, Kristin Cavallari. There are always the Kardashians to check out. And will Cher ever show up to cheer on Chaz (before he is axed)?
