A man was treated for life-threatening injuries after a head-on collision early Saturday morning.

Police were called to the two-car crash near Platte Avenue and Academy Boulevard around 12:30 a.m.

Officers said Steven Hill, 54, was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of Platte Avenue in a red Suzuki SX4. As Hill approached Academy Boulevard, he struck the front of a black Chevrolet Cobalt that was traveling eastbound on Platte Avenue, police reported.

It took two hours to remove the driver of the Cobalt from her car, but she did not suffer serious injuries, police said. Her name was not released.

Both Hill and the driver of the Cobalt were taken to Memorial Hospital, where Hill was treated for life threatening injuries and admitted to the intensive care unit. The driver of the Cobalt was released from the hospital.

Police said Hill would be charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
