Man arrested after clerk beaten

Police arrested a man on investigation of assault Saturday after he allegedly beat up a convenience store clerk on the city’s south side.Officers said Dumisai Hockaday walked into a 7-Eleven store on the 1800 block of South Nevada Avenue just before 1:30 p.m. and argued with a clerk who had asked him to leave the store. Police said the clerk thought Hockaday had previously shoplifted at the store.Instead of leaving, Hockaday started punching, police said, leaving the clerk with “serious bodily injury.”The clerk is expected to recover, officers said.Police were called and tracked down Hockaday a short time after the assault.He was being held Saturday afternoon in the El Paso County jail.
