BLOG: Coronado’s Ricotta likes tight competition on mat, in pool

Coronado senior Frankie Ricotta swears that he didn’t purposely choose to participate in the sports with the most skimpy uniforms. It just worked out that way.

“It just happens to be they’re both tights, and, you know, people like to look at the tights,” Ricotta said with a laugh.

Ricotta competes in the rare combination of wrestling and swimming. The two sports may not seem to go hand-in-hand, but Ricotta makes it work.

“I like swimming a lot, because it’s the same mentality as wrestling where it’s individual but team effort,” he said.

Ricotta started swimming his freshman year because of a wrestling injury.

“I had an injured knee and I didn’t want to do track because I would hurt it more,” he said. ” … Then I just kept training and swimming and I did club swim and I really liked it. So I just stuck with swim all four years and hopefully I’ll get a state cut this year.”
