Rockies’ Jimenez scratched from start with thumb injury
SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ. — Rockies’ ace Ubaldo Jimenez was scratched from Wednesday’s scheduled spring training start against the San Diego Padres because of a minor thumb injury.
The right-hander has an infected cuticle around the fingernail of his right thumb. He had the infection drained Tuesday and played light catch Wednesday. He is expected to make his next scheduled start.
“It hurt when I gripped the ball, but it feels much better today,” Jimenez said earlier Wednesday. “I should make my next start.”
Team officials said the injury is not considered serious. Jimenez has had an infected cuticle from time to time during his career.
