Wis. labor fight brings competing rallies to Colorado Capitol
Hundreds of union workers in Colorado took aim today at Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, rallying on the steps of the state Capitol as anti-union counter-protesters gathered nearby.
The labor rally in support of public employees in Wisconsin came despite the fact that state workers in Colorado, unlike those in Wisconsin, do not enjoy true collective bargaining rights and only have a mild “employee partnership” form of unionization.
But that fact didn’t dampen the outrage of the more than 500 union workers and supporters who gathered on the west side of the Capitol. Carrying signs that said things like, “Cairo Madison Denver” and “Standing Together with Wisconsin Workers,” teachers, firefighters, police officers, electricians, plumbers, sheetmetal workers and state employees mixed anger and camaraderie.
