Rockies look to lock up CarGo with new contract
ORLANDO, Fla. — The Rockies are willing to give Carlos Gonzalez an unprecedented contract for a player with barely two big-league seasons on his resume.
They would be open to a six- to seven-year deal, the length of which would guarantee Gonzalez in the neighborhood of $100 million, according to owner Dick Monfort.
“I am hopeful, yes, that we can get something done,” Monfort told The Denver Post in an exclusive interview Wednesday.
“Why? Well, I haven’t talked directly with Carlos, but I know he likes it here. And as a player, I would like to know that Troy Tulowitzki is going to be hitting behind me forever. And I would like that I don’t have to play center field every day because we already have a gazelle out there (in Dexter Fowler). But there is a roadblock.”
