Dead man found on Rampart Range identified; four arrested in homicide

A man missing after an assault at a southside apartment complex June 7 was found dead off Rampart Range Road Tuesday, his death ruled Colorado Springs’ ninth homicide.

Duane Maasch, 40, died of asphyxiation, the El Paso County Coroner’s office ruled.

Colorado Springs Police have arrested four people in connection with Maasch’s death. Jason Bomsta, 32, his wife Jobeth Bomsta, 37, and Peter Miller, 37 are all suspected of first degree murder, police said. Christopher McKinley, 21, is suspected of accessory to murder.

June 7, witnesses told police that Maasch sustained “significant injuries” during the assault inside an apartment at the Copper Chase Apartment Complex, 2033 Southgate Rd. The man had not been seen until police received a tip Monday of a dead body off of Rampart Range Road.

Maasch’s body was found by police Tuesday.
