If only Castle Rock’s Bill Loeffler could have played on Friday and Sunday like he did on Thursday and Saturday.

In the first and third rounds, Loeffler shot matching 3-under-par 69s. But he imploded for rounds of 82 and 79 in the second and fourth rounds, respectively.

Odd rounds, 6-under. Even rounds, 17-over.

“Unfortunately,” Loeffler said about his Sunday round, “Mr. Hyde showed up.”

Loeffler’s four-day total of 11-over 299 put him in a tie for 56th place and earned him $4,100.

Crenshaw pleased

Ben Crenshaw shot a 3-over 75 Sunday to finish tied for 45th with a four-day total of 8-over 296.

But Crenshaw was pleased with the tournament because of how the Colorado Golf Club’s course – which he designed with partner Bill Coore – held up through the tournament.

“I thought the course played beautiful,” Crenshaw said. “It played tough. … I really heard some nice comments from some of the players.”

That’s more like it

After shooting 73, 76 and 72, respectively, in the first three rounds, crowd favorite Tom Watson broke par for the first time Sunday with a 4-under 68.

“I made a couple long putts today,” Watson said. “That makes up for some of the putts I missed, but it didn’t make up enough.”

Etc.

Defending champion Michael Allen finished 1-under for the tournament and tied for 11th. … Gary Hallberg (Castle Rock) finished 6-over and tied for 36th, while Ron Vlosich (Lakewood) finished 14-over and tied for 69th.
