Race scheduled to help fund puppy mill rescues

The National Mill Dog Rescue, a Colorado Springs nonprofit, will be hosting a 5K run beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 12, at Memorial Park.

The cost is $30 a person or $25 for groups of six or more. The money raised during the event will go to the non-profit, which has rescued nearly 4,000 dogs to date.

“We’re suckers and we can’t say no,” said Marcie Miller, marketing director for the organization.

Some of the rescued dogs will also be present at the event. “They’ll be wearing their adopt-me bandannas and looking their best,” said Miller, adding “We’ll be training them to smile.”

Anyone interested in adopting a dog or registering early for the race can find more information at www.milldogrescue.org.
