The Colorado Secretary of State has asked for an “expedited order” that would compel Colorado Springs anti-tax activist Douglas Bruce to comply with subpoenas seeking information about his involvement in three statewide ballot initiatives.

The Colorado Attorney General, acting as the Secretary of State’s representative, filed the petition late Friday.

Bruce failed to show up for a deposition and hearing this spring involving a campaign finance complaint that is now being heard by the Colorado Office of Administrative Courts, which handles such complaints.

At issue is the signature-gathering efforts that got Amendments 60, 61, and Proposition 101 on the November ballot. Several professional signature gatherers who collected thousands of names for the three measures lived in a downtown Colorado Springs apartment owned by Bruce.

Opponents say the three measures would greatly limit the ability of local and state governments and school districts to borrow and spend money.
