Two arrested in March 28 shooting east of Springs

Two men have been arrested in connection with the March 28 shooting that put two people in the hospital, one of whom remains in critical condition.

El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Kevin Fonseca, 19, and Jamal Vanterpool, 19, on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, illegal discharge of a firearm, felony menacing and reckless endangerment, said Sheriff’s spokeswoman Lt. Lari Sevene.

A fight broke out about 3 a.m. at 2648 Shannara Grove, just east of Colorado Springs’ city limits. There had been a party at the home, and it had spilled out into a nearby parking lot.

Two men, Thurston Livingstone, 20, and Christopher Campbell, 26, showed up later at hospital emergency rooms.

Campbell had been shot in the buttocks and was treated and released.

Livingstone was shot in the stomach and remained in critical condition Thursday evening.

Sevene said at the time it appeared the two victims were rival gang members.
