Fort Carson welcomes home 32nd Transportation Co.
More than 150 soldiers from the 32nd Transportation Company, 43rd Sustainment Brigade arrived safely back at Fort Carson Monday night after a year-long deployment to Afghanistan.
The unit spent the year using heavy trucks to haul cargo such as water, fuel and ammunition to troops throughout Afghanistan, particularly those at Regional Command East at Bagram Air Field Base.
In past wars, support soldiers stayed behind the battle as they trucked the tools of war to the front. In Iraq and Afghanistan, a roiling insurgency has thrust support troops to the forefront of battle, as convoys and logistics bases such as Bagram Airfield have become key targets
In September, the unit lost Sgt. David A. Davis, 28, of Dalhart, Texas, in a mortar attack at Bagram Airfield north of Kabul.
