A woman suspected of driving drunk with a 3-year-old child in the back seat was arrested Thursday afternoon after losing control of her car and crashing into a guardrail on Colorado Springs’ west side.

Natalie Ohlsen faces charges of reckless endangerment, child abuse and DUI after the crash in the area of North Chestnut Street and Vondel Park Drive, police said.

A witness told police Ohlsen’s 2003 Saturn was traveling south on Chestnut Street going about 60 mph in a 30 mph zone when it lost control after passing another car. The Saturn went into northbound lanes and struck an guardrail on the east side of the road, police said.

The front passenger in the Saturn was not wearing a seat belt and struck the windshield, causing a “severe” facial injury.

The passenger’s child, who was in a seat for children was uninjured, police said.

Ohlsen was taken to the hospital and evaluated for DUI.
