Two people died in separate automobile crashes Thursday night in Colorado Springs.

About 8 p.m., a car traveling at a high rate of speed on eastbound Stetson Hills Boulevard near Jedediah Smith Road rolled at least twice, ejecting a passenger in the back seat, said Colorado Springs Police Sgt. Lonnie Spanswick, of the major accidents unit.

The driver and his female passenger, though wearing seat belts, were hospitalized with critical injuries. It was unknown if the passenger in the back seat wore a seat belt.

The three people in the car were thought to be in their middle to late 20s, Spanswick said.

Loved ones of the deceased passenger were at the scene and were despondent.

In an earlier crash about 5 p.m., a northbound Chevy Malibu on Northview Drive crossed the path of an eastbound Ford Escape when it failed to yield at a stop sign while trying to turn west on Palmer Park Boulevard and was struck on the driver’s door, Spanswick said.

The driver of the northbound car, a 93-year-old man, died of his injuries at a hospital. His passenger was unhurt.

No citations were issued, though Spanswick said the elderly driver appeared to have been at fault.
